On 7 April 1739 the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin was hanged. Though we call them highwaymen some of the most infamous highway robbers were women.

By the 18th century people bought artificial eggs made of various materials to give as gifts at Easter. (Sometimes the artificial eggs contained gifts). Chocolate Easter eggs were first made in the 19th century. 

Birkenhead Park

On 5 April 1847 Birkenhead Park opened. It was the first publicly funded park in Britain.
